writing villains
I know I say this every. single. time but I wasn't able to write for a long time. So, I've changed my mind: I will come to this blog whenever I can. I couldn't keep up with writing every week and hence, I will write when I have something to write about ahhahah.
That brings us to what I have to today.
Don't worry, I changed the name of the villain above so whatever.
As Dan Brown one said: "Your villains shape your hero."
This is something to think of. If your villain doesn't do his part, the hero would be pretty much a normal human being. Think:
In a mystery, The kidnapper (villain) kidnaps a person. An ordinary person strikes up and starts to piece the mystery (the hero).
I sci-fi, a powerful man (villain) opens a portal to a new dimension. The person with superficial powers (the hero) starts to go after them.
So you see, villains are always the ones who shape your hero. For my antagonist, he got pretty much all the details my protagonist got, I used the same character sheet for them and planned them carefully. So here's how to write a villain:
1. Plan everything about him: His name, age, height, weight, appearance, character (flaws and good), his past, his parents, significant memories, etc.
The next ones are tips to make them interesting and unnoticeable:
2. Make them help the main character
3. Make them lovable
4. Make them have a good backstory, meaning they shouldn't being doing their villain-y stuff without having a motive.
5. Make them hurt a good character (this will make them a bit scary)
6. Make him not reveal himself till the very end.
I hope this helped,
until next time,
this is Naba Khadija signing off.
