How writers think
I was doing this course on writing by Margaret Atwood and I connected with her immediately. I began to connect when she spoke about how writers think.
Writers think differently. They are always in their own realm where they reside. If you ever heard someone say that you can write when you get a full-fledged idea, characters, plot, and everything like a package into your brain, then they are wrong. Writers never get ideas like that. It would maybe start off when you are removing the ironing board, for example, imagining a character removing it out with aggression and speaking aggressively. Maybe you saw a girl with ginger hair and blue eyes and her face stuck to your head. Maybe you tripped down the stairs and bounced three steps down before you got to your feet and stumbled the rest of the way down. Maybe you fell off a skateboard or saw somebody ride it without difficulty.
Writers are always thinking about writing when they are not writing. When you sit at your computer, ideas don't flow smoothly through a pipe into your brain. Sometimes they do not come at all. That's when you take a break. Go for a run, wash the dishes, or iron. When you're doing a monotonous action, you think a lot. That's why you often see somebody humming softly when they are folding clothes or washing the dishes. Writers might hum but mostly think hard while doing such acts.
